September 11th Family Night

We decided to move our family night to today in honor of September 11th. We talked about (appropriate kid discussion) what happened and the people who went back to heaven. We also talked about agency and how it is a special gift that we need to use wisely. We decided that today we would show our gratitude for our local firefighters by taking them a cake that said thank you. It was a really neat experience. The kids really enjoyed it. They went in and shook all the firefighters hands and said thank you. We met 5 or 6 of them, including the Fire Chief. He took us back and showed us the kitchen where they would eat it. Then the best part for the kids was they offered to let them sit in the ambulance and fire engine. I wasn't anticipating this so I didn't bring a camera. They were so awesome and grabbed one out and snapped a picture. It was emailed to me before I got home!

It was really cool for the kids. They looked through the infrared camera, tried the radios and the pulse oximeter. They even got a fire hat and sticker which was the real highlight. Before we left, the fire chief came out and gave Daniel and I a hug and thanked us. It was really sweet. Really, we just wanted them to know that we appreciate their service to our community. And what better day is there to show that? We remember 9/11 and are grateful for all out servicemen and women who are so willing to sacrifice everything for the people of our nation.
