Yard Work

Oh my heck.  We have done so much work to our yard this year.  The worst part of it is, from the outside in, it doesn't look like we've done much, but we really have.

We moved the fence forward on the side of the house, to make room for our new raised bed.  It was a family project that I posted about earlier.  We all were really committed to the project and worked hard.

The boys worked really hard spreading the dirt.  I was really impressed with how hard they worked.

 Then we we planted a TON of plants.  Stawberries, cucumbers, squash, peanuts, peppers, garlic, herbs, tomatoes, lettuce, cabbage, cilantro and all kinds of goodies.  It was a lot of work, but it turned out great. . . . . .

Until . . . . the next day when Sawyer and some cute little kiddos I watch, went out and pulled EVERYTHING out of the ground.  Only a few of the strawberries made it, none of the garlic lived, my cucumber died and my cilantro.

Needless to say, we were upset.

And . . . . . that 's when we decided to put a fence up.

So we added another family project to the list and built a fence to lock out the kids.

Then Daniel decided to throw in another project out front.  Daniel has been trying to convince me to rip out the park strips and plant lavender.  I was a little bit hesitant and resisted for a couple years.  But, finally gave in.

So we ripped out all the grass, which was really heavy.  Lucky for me, I have a really strong husband, and a few strong little sons.

So after a lot of dirt, weed fabric, and bark, 75 lavender plants went in.

 And here they are.  They look so small in this picture.  But, now they are huge!  We get lots of compliments, and Daniel is happy.  And we all did it together.
