Did you know Syracuse is known as the gateway to Antelope Island? Our house is approximately 2 miles from it. Daniel's sister and brother and their families, went camping there over the weekend. And while they were kind enough to invite us, I'm not quite ready for camping with a newborn. So we met them there for the day, on the beach.
It's not really a beach where you swim. I mean, you could, but you'd come out really salty and gross. So the kids had fun messing around in the water with their cousins. You should have seen their clothes after they dried off though. They were hard and white with crusted salt on them.
It was pretty windy that day too. I don't know, maybe it's always windy there.
So they splashed around and had a great time. Easton was not so fond of his swim trunks at one point and decided to try and take them off. He had a hard time with it and ended up waddling around with them stuck like this for a while. It was pretty funny actually.
Thanks to our genius Aunt Annie who brought a kite! It was continuous entertainment for Parker. He really loved it. And was pretty good with it too.
This picture of him running with the kite makes him look so old to me. He looks so big in it.
He really was content to just sit there with that kite all afternoon.
Colson on the other hand was not a huge fan of the sand. He kept pointing to his feet and saying "dirt". He didn't want to walk with them dirty and kept making me dust his feet off. Finally, he just parked in my lap for the rest of the afternoon and ate twizzlers and cheet-ohs with me.
Uncle Chris brought his kayak to paddle around in. Daniel and I love kayaking, so Daniel was pretty excited to go for a spin in it. They said it was a little too windy and kept splashing salt water in your face. But, they put some of the kids in it and walked them around in it, and they thought that was pretty cool. Uncle Chris and Aunt Annie also brought a pack n play which was SO nice. We put Sawyer down for a nap and he slept the day away in comfort.
All in all, a lovely day with family!

OK, so has antelope island changed in the last decade or so? we went there once when I was younger and it left a bad memory in my mind. I remember it being stinky and there being a blanket of gnats covering the shore that you had to walk through if you were brave enough to go in the water. The word "desolation" comes to mind. At least that's what my memory tells me....it sounds like it was a different experience for you though :)
