We decided to take a little family vacation this year. Colson has been begging to go down to Dinoland in Vernal. So Daddy took a few days off and we rented adjoining rooms at a little hotel.
The kids were SO excited that the hotel had a pool. They couldn't wait to go swimming. So as soon as we got there, we ate dinner and headed to the pool.
The next day we woke up bright and early and headed out. Immediately, we got a flat tire. So we got that fixed and were on our way. We headed to the Museum first.
We saw all kinds of cool fossils including my personal favorite, the Stegosaurus.
And a really cool replica of a Mammoth.
At the visitor center they had some telescopes that the kids got a kick out of.
They had these really cool booklets the kids could fill out. About different era's, fossils, dinosaurs etc. After they finished it, they took it to the Park Ranger, and they recited this pledge to become a Junior Ranger.
Then we headed to the Quarry. It's this amazing place paleontologists discovered, FULL of dinosaur bones. They created this really cool exhibit hall that you could see the fossils still in the rock.
It was amazing. They had a paper map and an interactive map that you could pinpoint a certain bone in the wall, then read up on what it came from etc. It was really cool. Colson was in dinosaur heaven.
Then we headed out looking for petroglyphs and pictographs.
We found tons. It was amazing. We drove through the whole area searching for them and hiking around to find them.
You heard it right, I hiked. I sweated and huffed up mountains. Yikes.
We also found this really cool river area. If you yelled, it echoed forever.
It was kind of a special experience for me and Daniel. We all stood on the banks of the river, held hands and yelled, "we are the Baum's." It echoed for a long time. It almost brought a few tears to my eyes.
We drove past some really cool rock formations. This one is a turtle.
This one is Elephant toes.
As we were hiking, Colson and Sawyer came back for me. I was so slow hiking and couldn't bear to slow them down. So, they came back and walked down with me. They were "helping me down."
We had dinner at a cool restaraunt. And had a fun country dinner.
We stopped at a cool trading post area and got the kids a few souvenirs.
Then we of course had one more night of swimming. And the kids were out.
They were exhausted. They all passed out cold.
We had the best time. It was really our first family vacation. We loved it. And can't wait to plan our next one.
